Second Stage: Greenwich Village

I haven't posted for quite a bit! With clients needing to move-in by the first and staging to be done (we'll call it sprucing) for a one bedroom coop coming up for sale in Greenwich Village on 19th Street. Here's what I did for the latter...it's a cheap fix, rearranging existing furnishings and decorative accessories to make it look like a home, just a bit more designed. The bench that held plants and a model ship under the window became a coffee table, the bookshelf was revamped to give a sense of symmetry and order... focusing the eye on the artwork we curated down, the extra chair in the living room and a painting were moved into the dining area to activate the corner, bedding and pillows in the bedroom flipped and stacked (respectively) to create better lines from a distance. Love. Maialino: Gramercy Park

I love the Gramercy Park Hotel- I love the look and feel of Rose Bar and Jade Bar and I love Maialino. We had dinner with friends last night and I'm always pleasantly surprised by how much I like not only the atmosphere, but the food here! The service is impeccable, our waiter able to speak fluent "menu" which allowed him to help with food pairings and drink suggestions beautifully. We started with a grilled octopus salad and caprese salad...the former was good, the latter amazing! The heirloom tomatos were chunked, rich and juicy under the drizzle of pureed olive oil / basil and the mozarella was a lovely, creamy counter to the sharper flavors. We shared the amazing suckling pig (shoulder) with it's crispy skin scented with rosemary, fennel seed, salt and pepper...the roasted potatos underneath, soaking up the incredible broth. And for desert a great olive oil cake (I'm seriuosly addicted) and a shaved espresso ice. Not full, just satisfied...perfect!

What? Roman-style Trattoria
When?  Dinner is Sunday through Thursday, 5:30-10:30, Friday through Saturday, 5:30-11

On the Campaign Trail

Inspired by Peter Burka's Anthropologie Campaign Bed, I've pulled a few more "treasures" to take a look at. What I loved about Peter's bed was that while it seemed grand and dramatic, it also seemed aesthetically "light and airy" with plenty of negative space to give your eye a rest in a smaller apartment. As you can see below, you have some choices with campaign beds...make them simple and clean or dramatic and draped. Either way, they are wonderful!

Studio Plus: Chelsea

Massive studio in Chelsea is WONDERFUL- large living area, seperate kitchen, large room off of the kitchen can be a bedroom, dining area or office. If that wasn't enough, there is a dressing area off the bathroom and an additional room off of that...can be one of the largest closets in NY or an office! Great elevator building in the teens off of 6th Avenue- you really can't lose!

The Happy Client: Kristin & Peter, Upper West Side

After almost a year at his Upper West Side apartment (featured here), Peter, his wife Kristin Rose of Oleander for Home and I are searching for a new apartment (actually, we have an application on one). Moving from Ottawa last year for a new position in Soho,  I met after he reached out to a few agents (including me) to help in his search for a NYC apartment...I was a bit late in my response, but after no follow-up from the agent he had engaged for his search (I had sent a "good luck" email and a list of documentation he'd need to secure an apartment here) he asked if I would help find he a Kristin and apartment. I did and the rest is history! We found a doorman, elevator building literally steps from Central Park which they've decorated in a modern meets traditional, fun meets elegant decor that feel spacious and comfortable.

For their new apartment (his building was sold this year, so moving out was a must), I focused on finding a one bedroom. After viewing a few walk-ups, Peter explained that he was happy with what he has now and that a good-sized studio in a doorman buidling would fit the bill. I can see why- by "zoning" his studio with area rugs, Kristin and Peter were able to create a sleeping/ dressing area, a living and dining space. Each area complements the next and with eggplant, chartreuse and grey "pops of color" throughout, each zone informs the next with both color and functional cues. "Look at the pattern in the bedding," explained Kristin. "If you look closely, all of the colors of the bedding are reflected throughout the apartment." It is and it works! In a month or so, you'll be able to see the new studio in my first "before and after". In the meantime, check out Kristin's Ottawa store, Oleander for Home, for the exquisite bedding, table and bath linens, kitchen and bath accessories that give this apartment it's luxurious feel.
