Cheap, Chic, Rural: IKEA

I'm always amazed by IKEA and love heading down to Red Hook to see what they have every now and then. It's like Uniqlo or the Gap- pick up well designed basics, mix it with vintage and pricier standouts and you have someting amzing that isn't going to break the bank. Inspired by some whispy florals in tin buckets in Chelsea and by IKEA's PS Collection, take a look:

Dress Like Your House

As Summer ends, I thought I'd share some random color stories that I've collected and LOVE...brights in the home (or on your feet, etc.) help you take the warm weather well into the cold winter months.

Thrifty Me: Gramercy

The area around 23rd and 3rd Avenue is a treasure trove of vintage and thrift stores! The three I've highlighted are my absolute favorites, but there is also Goodwill, Salvation Army, Cause for Paws (all on 23rd between 2nd and 3rd). It's a great place to shop for bargains and they all benefit very worthy causes.

Where? 286 Third Avenue between 22nd & 23rd
What? Great Furniture, Art and Table Top, Window Auctions...they get a lot of wonderful mid century to deco pieces! The current window auction has some wonderful medical -themed accessories from the thrities and forties!

Love. VSF: Greenwich Village

As you walk along West 10th from Bleecker, I defy you not to be stopped by the flowers in VSF's window. They are exactly what the tasteful and quietly elegant New Yorker looks for in flowers- no tricks, just beautiful and sculptural flowers at the peak of their beauty. Stop by, the bouquet of acorns against the creamy roses stopped me in my tracks...if your eyes just rolled, trust me, they'd get you too!

Thrifty Me: Chelsea & The West Village

I love a bargain (and I buy and sell antiques a bit on the side), so with that said, New York is a surprising treasure trove of both! As I'm out and about in Chelsea and the West Village, I stop at the following thrifts- you have to go often and sometimes it's a hit and sometimes it isn't, but I find that it's more the former than the latter. Go see for yourself, as in real estate, there is no greater thrill than finding that treasure!
