Studio Plus: Chelsea

Massive studio in Chelsea is WONDERFUL- large living area, seperate kitchen, large room off of the kitchen can be a bedroom, dining area or office. If that wasn't enough, there is a dressing area off the bathroom and an additional room off of that...can be one of the largest closets in NY or an office! Great elevator building in the teens off of 6th Avenue- you really can't lose!

The Happy Client: Upper East Side, 80's

It was so great to see Samantha again at her Upper East Side studio and see how she had settled in...the apartment is fantastic! "I definitely like the pre-war charm- everyone compliments the exposed brick and the fireplace." For me, the appeal was not only the charm- this place is big! In pretty jewel tones, she's been able to comfortably seperate a living area and a bedroom, "I'm glad I went with the open space, so I could create the rooms myself, instead of having a small bedroom or a small livingroom." While the living area has clean lines and bright colors (love the aqua pillows on the cobalt sectional...), her bedroom is feminine to a tee. "The silk flowers on the mantle are an homage to my grandmother," Samantha says with a smirk. "She plants silk flowers outside because she can't bare to see them die in the fall." I just loved that... and admitted that my grandmother had done the same. "It's fine when your driving by in the summer, you really can't tell...it's when you have to sweep the snow off them that it seems a bit obvious."

Who? Samantha, Physician's Assistant
What? Upper East Side Studio
How? Three days, probably about twelve apartments. We stayed on the Upper East Side, so that Samantha's commute to the Bronx would be shorter....she's now a few blocks from the train.
Best Thing about the Apartment? "location for sure...love the access to the parks, the restaurants and the bars. I thought I'd be heading to Central Park, but I love the park at East End. I've cut my commute in half and i run into someone I know everyday. On the way home from the train tonight, I ran into two people I know!"
Worst Thing about the Apartment? "Ummm...it's definitely more expensive in Manhattan than Astoria- groceries, everything. The truth is, I've stopped taking cabs...I walk more and take the subway, so it may actually be awash."
Best Thing about the Search? "We saw so many apartments- different layouts, sizes and streets, so by the time I saw this apartment and made my decision, I was really confident."
Worst Thing about the Search? "The heat. That one day we were looking, I think it was 100 degrees!"

The Happy Client: Upper West Side

It was such a pleasure to visit Puja this weekend to see her Upper West Side studio and the progress she was making with her new home! Obviously, the results are wonderful and her apartment is bright and elegant with warm pops of color against a very neutral palette. It's a large studio on a gorgeous, tree-lined street about half a block from Cenrtral Park. Puja's sleeping loft is used as a "guest bedroom" (her parents have already claimed the spot for their next visit) and she hasn't even utilized all of the storage space in the studio! She's decorated the walls with her own paintings, that, like the apartment and like Puja, are warm and spiritual, bright and graceful- all with a wonderful sense of humor.

Beautiful Curves: West Village at Christopher

As you walk into the small foyer of this flawless West Village studio, the impact of it's arched doorways, curvaceous base moldings and vaulted ceilings is immediate. The hardwood floors sparkle, the southern view is amazing- you feel as if you have all of Manhattan at your feet. The quality and finesse had me thinking about BDDW...I think some of the most beautifully designed and perfectly crafted home furnishings today. Visit them in Soho if you haven't already!

20's Inspired Studio: Upper West Side

Inspired by the views and architecture of this Upper West Side Studio, I've uncovered some time-appropriate decor to suit- they are only snapshots of online treasures that could transform this 1920's, massive pre-war studio into a space that Joyce or Hemingway could have felt at home in...

The Happy Client: Soho

I truly believe that your apartment is a clear reflection of who you are and my visit to jewelry designer Lauren's Soho studio only reinforced that belief. It's a little jewel box (yup, I had to use that analogy): sparkling and feminine in cool greys, creams and pastels with a shimmer of metallic. It is a small space, but Lauren has created an uncluttered, elegant home that has wonderful "moments" throughout- small vases of flowers and sparkling picture frames, crystal lamps and family photos.

Who? Lauren, Jewelry Designer, Lauren Kara
What? Soho Elevator Building on Mulberry
How? Lauren and I looked about 10 apartments in the Upper East Side, Gramercy, The East Village, Murray Hill and Soho. The last apartment was the one she took- a modern studio in an elevator building on a prime block in the heart of Soho.
Best Thing about the Apartment? "It's bright with a big window....and a renovated bathroom! I also really like the proximity to the subway."
Worst Thing about the Apartment? "Well, if I did it again, I'd give up location for more space, but I'm glad I did this." Lauren thought for a minute, "worst thing is that I don't have room for a coffee table, a kitchen table and I only have one closet."
Best Thing about the Search? "I had you to take me places".
Worst Thing about the Search? "The walking! I had an old ankle injury that's flared up again."
